Strategies for Maintaining Your Sanity While Working Remotely

Many people dream about working from home and having the freedom to work from anywhere. You get to set your own schedule, wear pajamas all day (which is a huge perk!), and be in control of your work environment. I’ve been working from home for a few years now, and I love it. In fact, I’m typing this from my RV as I travel around the country.

However, working from home or while traveling comes with its own set of challenges. That’s why I’m sharing my top tips for making it work.

First, it’s important to understand that working from home doesn’t mean you’re on a permanent vacation. You still have tasks to complete and need to earn a living. While eliminating your commute and working in your pajamas are great benefits, you have to remember that you still have a job to do.

Here are my tips for staying productive and sane while working from home:

**Stick to a work schedule.**
Even if you have a flexible job, it’s wise to maintain a consistent work schedule. This helps you mentally transition into “work mode” and reduces distractions.

**Have a dedicated work area.**
Having a specific spot in your home just for work can help you stay organized and separate your work life from your home life.

**Exercise regularly.**
It’s easy to stay in one spot all day when working from home. Make sure to get regular exercise to stay healthy and clear your mind.

**Hire help if you need it.**
Outsourcing tasks can help you focus on what’s important. You can hire help for both work and home tasks, like a virtual assistant, nanny, or housekeeper.

**Cut out distractions.**
Social media and TV can be major distractions. Make sure to limit these during your work hours to stay efficient.

**Socialize with others.**
Working from home can feel isolating. Make an effort to socialize by joining clubs, hanging out with friends, calling coworkers, or working in shared spaces.

**Don’t run errands for others all day long.**
People might assume you have lots of free time if you work from home. Be realistic about what favors you can take on without affecting your work.

**Take breaks.**
If your job allows, take breaks when needed. Breaks can help you feel refreshed and more productive.

**Have fun.**
Remember to enjoy the flexibility that comes with working from home. Spend time with family, pursue hobbies, and make the most of your career choice.
